Fixing the volume buttons on the Apple TV remote

This one is more of a bookmark for myself since it seems to happen at least once a year. All of a sudden the volume controls stop working on the Apple TV remote.

My first thought was an app had updated, introduced a bug, and blocked volume control.

But then I think, how can it control my television's own volume control?

Turns out, you just need to reboot the remote 🤔

Rebooting the remote

  1. Hold down the Control Center button and the volume down button together for 5 seconds
  2. Wait for the remote to reboot, and try using it
